Safety

Safety notice

Not a medical device. Use as directed by a qualified EMDR therapist.

Intended use

EMDRgear provides bilateral stimulation — alternating left/right tactile pulses and a sweeping light — for use in EMDR sessions under the guidance of a trained therapist. It is a tool a therapist may choose to use; it is not therapy, and it is not a substitute for a clinician.

What it is not

  • Not a medical device. It has not been evaluated by the FDA, CE-marked, or reviewed by any regulator.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
  • No clinical studies of this device have been conducted. Claims about EMDR as a therapy are the domain of your therapist and the published literature, not this product.

Who should not use it

Do not use the light bar if you have photosensitive epilepsy or have been advised to avoid flashing or moving lights. Do not use the tappers on broken skin or where vibration is contraindicated. If you are unsure, ask your therapist or physician first.

Safe use

  • Start at low vibration strength and slow speed; increase only as your therapist directs.
  • Use the session timer so stimulation stops automatically.
  • The STOP button on the client's phone always stops the device, including during telehealth.
  • Power only from a standard 5 V USB source. Do not open the pods while powered.
  • Keep away from water. Do not use if the shell is cracked and wiring is exposed.
  • Keep small parts (keys, screws, terminals) away from children.

Self-built kits

If you build from the published files, you are responsible for the electrical safety of your build. Use the specified parts, check polarity before powering, and never wire anything to the ESP32 flash pins (SD0–SD3, CMD, CLK).

Between-session use

Some therapists recommend bilateral stimulation between sessions. Follow your therapist's instructions on settings and duration; do not use the kit to process distressing material without their guidance.
